Acupuncture therapy is a wonderful and effective practice originating in ancient China. Treatment is delivered by manipulating points on the body, using solid needles that have been inserted into acupuncture points in the skin. For more than 2,000 years, the practice of acupuncture has been used to prevent and relieve pain. Traditional Chinese acupuncture is based on ancient Chinese theories of the flow of Qi (energy) and Xue (blood) through distinct meridians (energy pathways) that cover the entire body like blood vessels. According to ancient theory, acupuncture allows Qi to flow to areas where it is deficient and away from areas where it is in excess. In this way, it regulates and restores the harmonious balance of the body. In Chinese, there is a saying: “There would be no pain if there is free flow; if there is pain, there must be no free flow.”
